Growing up in Christchurch, Nick always dreamed of becoming a farmer. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Lincoln University in 2013. Throughout university, Nick worked on dairy farms around Canterbury and North Otago. In July 2014 Nick began a graduate role with Ravensdown, before moving into an Agri Manager role in September 2014 in the Tararua district. This role involved providing sound, science-based fertiliser, agronomy and animal health advice to the shareholders in the Tararua district. Nick become a Certified Nutrient Management Advisor in September 2015 while assisting farmers to understand and farm within the Horizon One Plan.
In February 2017 Nick moved to Chengdu, China, on a New Zealand-China Government Scholarship. Nick spent over two and a half years living in China, where he furthered his Chinese language skills, travelled, and met his fiancé Sasha, from Russia. In June 2019 Nick returned to New Zealand, working as an Environmental Advisor for Irrigo Centre Ltd in Ashburton. Irrigo Centre manages the environmental requirements for BCI, MHV and ALIL irrigation schemes. This role involved helping scheme shareholders improve their environmental practices on-farm through Farm Environment Plans, implementing Good Management Practices and preparing nutrient budgets.
In October 2019 Nick began working at DFMS. This role comprised of completing Farm Environment Plans, Nutrient Budgets, Dairy Effluent WOF’s, FARMAX modelling, and farm systems work, particularly on the West Coast. Nick begun working for MRB - Marfarlane Rural Business in September 2021. Nick is passionate about the New Zealand agriculture industry and is committed to improving environmental outcomes on farms, whilst helping maintain profitability.
Nick lives in Canterbury with his wife, where his spare time is spent running, woodworking, cycling, fishing and diving.
